Getting Ready for Surgery

Getting ready for surgery is a complicated process. There are a number of tests and doctors’ visits you need to complete prior to your procedure to ensure you are a safe surgical candidate. In addition to this, many questions can arise on the eve of surgery: What do I bring to the hospital? Which meds should I take and which should I not take? When was I supposed to start fasting?

The details are plentiful, and any one missed can result in the cancelation of the procedure that you have been waiting patiently for. I have noticed that what sometimes is second nature for me and my staff, can outright confuse patients who may not be used to the medical system. To help clarify the process, and to provide a reference, I created this short 5-minute video to give you the absolute essentials that you need to prepare for your surgical date. The list is not exhaustive—and is not a substitute for working closely with your surgeon—but should give you an overview of what to expect.
