About
Yoshihiro Katsuura MD
Dr. Yoshihiro Katsuura is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in complex adult and pediatric spine care, treating patients ages 10 and older. He believes in using surgery only when necessary and in maximizing the use of minimally invasive techniques. As the first surgeon north of San Francisco to offer ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic spine care to his patients, he believes strongly in using the latest advances to cure spinal disease.
Dr. Katsuura received his undergraduate double major degree from the University of California at Berkeley and then attended medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, graduating with honors. He then completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine at Chattanooga. Dr. Katsuura later completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medical College, ranked as the number one orthopedic hospital in the U.S.
Dr. Katsuura has served on the spine surgery faculty at both Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medical College and cared for patients in the New York metropolitan area. He is an Active Fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society, the premier international society for spinal deformity treatment and research. He is active in academic research and studies how physicians and surgeons can consciously improve their skills. Currently, he runs his own private practice serving patients in Marin, Mendocino, Sonoma and San Francisco counties.
In his spare time, Dr. Katsuura enjoys writing, animation, and illustration. He created The Spine Encyclopedia, a comprehensive, patient-friendly guide to back and neck care, and authored Skeletal Metabolism, a handbook on osteoporosis management. Outside of medicine, he loves playing the piano and spending time with his wife, a pediatrician, and their two “future space explorers.” Dr. Katsuura feels fortunate to provide world-class spine care to the Northern California community he calls home.
